in Šustala´s Villa


Historic building no. 226 is situated in the city park near the railway station. The original inhibitant of the Classicist villa from 1889 was the son of the founder of the famous coach factory - Josef Šustala. Šustala's family lived here until the end of World War II.


After the war, the villa was nationalized. In 1947 the Kopřivnice native, Emil Hanzelka, founded the Lašské Museum in the villa. The exhibition at first included private Hanzelka's items of homeland study and ethnography nature, ceramic items from the local factory were added subsequently and later also historic vehicles of the Tatra brand. In 1953 it was decided to re-build the Museum to the Museum of automobile and ceramic industry. In 1967 (near to the Lašské Museum) new glass exhibition pavilion was built and the Museum was transfered under control of Tatra, national enterprise. The villa then mainly served as an administration building of the museum. In 1997 the exhibits were moved to the new building in the centre of Kopřivnice and the villa was closed for wide public.



Between 2004 and 2005, reconstruction of the villa took place. On 25th June 2005 the villa with new name - Schustala´s Villa - was provisionally open. The visitors could see a new restored rooms and children´s drawings inspirated by artworks of Zdeněk Burian.




Inauguration of new permanent exhibition in the Šustala's Villa finally took place on 17th September 2005. The reconstruction was realised as the part of project "Development of Regional museum in Koprivnice" during the summer 2005. Cost of exhibiton was 8,4 mil. CZK covered by the partnership of European Union fund (using the SROP agenda -, city of Kopřivnice and Moravian-Silesian Region.


Nowadays there´s the exposition divided to several parts.


Part of the museum include also a public available archive with many unique photographies and documents in electronic form, relating to the regional history.

Factory Producing Clay Goods

The tradition art and regional history lovers will have their own back with a survey of extensive collection of artistic majolica, ceramics and decorative tile stoves produced by the then Kopřivnice factory producing clay goods.

Zdeněk Burian

A separate exhibition trying to evoke the atmosphere of exotics and adventure is dedicated to the Kopřivnice native, painter and illustrator - Zdeněk Burian.

Kopřivnice Natives

A total of eleven list panels are sacrificed to local painters, poets and other cultural- and art-active personalities from Kopřivnice.

Exhibitions, Discussions

In the upper premises of the museum, in the attic studio there are variation exhibitions of a more quiet nature focused on author artistic production, children or student works, folk creativity etc. In the boardroom are organized multiple lectures and meetings.
