Who would not know the sportsman who was for more than 10 years amazing the whole world with his performances in running disciplines. He participated in sports events in each continent, beating every single competitor. He won golden and silver medal at the Olympics in London (1948) and even three golden medals in Helsinky four years later (1952). This has been achieved by hardly anybody in the world. He managed to break world records for 18 times and Czechoslovakian records for 61 times. His track record of New Year's Eve run in Sao Paulo (1954) has not been broken so far. Together with his wife Dana, a javelin-thrower, they represented our country with dignity and both of them helped promote our small country in the heart of Europe.

It is this most famous Czech sportsman, a multiple Olympic winner and Czech Oympionic of the century – Emil Zátopek (1922-2000) and his wife Dana (born 1922) that this extended exhibition that was inaugurated with a vernissage on September 17, 2005 is dedicated to.

Part of the exhibition, which is situated in Technical museum, inter alia includes two documentary films. One of them has been shot in cooperation with a Finnish TV and is cut to a length of 14 minutes and six seconds – just the same as the time of the world record of five kilometers of this greatest runner of all time. You can see almost 50 authentic photographs, several press materials, plaques, souvenirs, medals, caricatures, trophies, Zatopek' s representation jacket or a starting number from the legendary Olympic Games from London as well as various personal things connected with the married couple of Zatopek.

The museum exhibition was taking place during the summer 2005 within the “Development of Regional Museum of Kopřivnice – Building of Exhibitions of Kopřivnice History, Handicraft Traditions and Cultural Heritage of Significant Natives – Zdeněk Burian and Emil Zátopek” project with costs amounting to 6 mil.
