The four-axle Slovenská strela rail car, a national cultural monument, is displayed in a modern award-winning glass pavilion boasting the architectural prizes of the Best Building in the Moravian-Silesian Region 2020 and Building of the Year 2021. The depository is situated just off the Tatra Truck Museum and the Kopřivnice main train station.
The Slovenská strela was made in 1936, in the Ringhoffer-Tatra motor works in Kopřivnice. It is unique by its aerodynamic design and electromechanical transmission of power from the engine to the axles. Since 2000 the rail car has been listed as a cultural monument, and since 2010 a national cultural monument. During 2018-2021 it underwent a major reconstruction.
Besides the Slovenská strela, the Depository features also glass cabinets displaying the original parts of the rail car saved during the reconstructions, replicas of the train crew uniforms, and dishes used in the restaurant cars by a company who delivered the catering services. The exhibition includes also a drawing board with a built-in screen showing a loop sequence of photographs documenting the production of the legendary rail car. The glass cabinets have accompanying texts in Czech and English. During your visit to the Depository you can also descend down into the inspection pit and check the chassis of the Slovenská strela from below.
There are two types of tours in the Depository: either guided tours during which you can also enter inside the rail car, or individual unguided tours with just the exterior of the Slovenská strela. The schedule of the guided tours is published through our social media. Live tours in foreign languages are possible, please book in advance for a guided tour with commentary in English or Russian.
